Mike Fury - Howling Blogmeister
OK, I fibbed about that last one – maybe all three who knows? But you were expecting Nick Fury perhaps? Nooo – it’s me. Mike. Mikey Mike. The Mikester! Back with a new blog for 2009. Happy New Year! Are you glad to see me? OK, so don’t answer that. I know it’s a love/hate kind of relationship – you don’t want to read my thoughts, but you can’t help yourself. As you might know (well who else is reading this?) my last blog ran for just a couple of months last year and was an attempt to extend my comments from DC’s online comics competition site Zuda. Well, it was quite a piece of work and not necessarily in a good way! Whatever the pros and cons I wasn’t sorry to see the back of it myself. I was quite sick of the sound of my own voice by the end of it. Good riddance I say.
Now you are more than welcome to engage with me once again on MPD57: Om Namaha Ganesha: A minor meditation with words and pictures. Wot a gob full. What does the title mean? Well, I’ve gorn all peace loving and nice. Got to get back some respect from the big G upstairs. You wouldn’t believe, but I got sick of being a snarky bastard to all and sundry. Hallelujah brother! Now call off the guys in white coats brandishing butterfly nets!
So what will I be up to this time around? Apart from spreading the love and being nice with a capital ‘nuh’? Well, I won’t be focussing so strictly on the world of webcomics – and Zuda in particular – that’s for sure. Shit, I don’t even like webcomics that much. You knew that already perhaps from my critical attitude last time out as The Webcomic Witchfinder. I don’t even like most comics to be honest. I’m certainly no fanboy. Yeah, I have a small consideration of dead tree material, but really those days of collecting are long gone now. I’m too old and gnarly for that kind of shit. However, despite looking dimly on the great majority of webcomics and the state of the print industry, I am still interested in the long ago history and future promise of comics in general. Two ends of a long snake! Short term trends and what happens to be hot right now or for any five minute period does not really appeal. So, while I haven’t anything else to talk about, those past and future aspects of comics will remain fairly prominent on this particular blog, however I will be blogging more fully about all the other things that interest me including graphic design, movies, music, books and, well, whatever takes my fancy – call it culture maybe – join me why don’t ya?
Ya wanna live forever ya lousy stumblebums?

On behalf of the internet, let me say ‘Welcome back’! The new blog looks great. I like the sounds of this new direction you’re talking about.

And when you say ‘the big G upstairs’ I assume you’re talking about the supremely talented Kenny G.

Bizzarely not Kenny G (is he even upstairs?) or even Gandalf. Care to try for any other possibilities?

You got away from the blogger I see. Reasons?
I’m just curious.

I was trying to download it like Gary did over at AA for a while but I couldn’t figure out how. But just the dashboard and features and scheduling and stats – it just looks better and more feature packed my end as it were. And I mean features not bells and whistles. Also I think it’s independent of any big player (google, microsoft, etc) so it fits in with my support for open source tech type stuff. Feels more like facebook than myspace – bit more ‘adult’ (but not much!)

As another big fan of wordpress – I agree on the non-affiliation open-source stuffs. Lots of add-ons folks create for it as well. Good to see you back online
