Once again with the news round-up. Some of this stuff may be stale, but that’s never closed my local bakery so what the hell. And when I say ‘Hey Kids’ I don’t actually mean kids, I mean some of this links might take you to places you’d rather not go to read things you might not even want to think about. So, if you are a kid – go read something else!
With that in mind here are two stories that appeared on the BBC new site, one worryingly more prominent than the other. The first might test your opinion on censorship, the second, much more shocking, might test it again, but in a different way. Just who is censoring what? And why?
We return now to the less worrying world of comics and design. Read on for da old new news …
Andrew Dimitt has revelations concerning his Zuda experience over on his Live Journal. Go there to see get a sneak peek of his next entry. And I know you’ll be interested in seeing the next 12 or so pages of his Zuda entry from May Flowing Wells. What it reminds me and probably should remind us all is that just because it isn’t a great fit for Zuda and the eight page competition doesn’t make it a bad comic. It just makes it difficult to win!
Nude Magazine issue 15 is out now! It’s like a magazine that I would make if I could, but I’m saved the trouble by just buying it like everyone else – wallet permitting! Also there’s cute little pic by Angelique Houtkamp of a lady boxer at the bottom of that page – for fans of the Night Owls only!!!
A link posted on Steve Steiner’s blog leads me to despair. When 4th and 5th grade students are doing better work than you it’s time to up your game – damn! See the good work for yourself.
Designers. I know you all want to be Si Scott but you (we) don’t have the patience or talent so you’ll be wanting to download these FREE Photoshop brushes from Smashing Magazine. You (we) still won’t be Si but we’ll enjoy pretending right?
A new video from designer Kate Moross here acting as Art Director – me like, maybe you like too, maybe we go out?
Shannon Cronin is racking up some interesting posts on his blog. Here’s another nugget on knowing your comic book rights!
If you’ve not been following Untrue Tales lately or even Sam’s own blog, distracted perhaps like the author by The Hammer, then check out The Hunter – I love this kinda stuff!
Maggie Thompson recommends art house movie The Fall, and y’know what? – I’m going to rush out and buy it!!! OK, amend that: I’m going to rush out and buy it when I can find it second hand and very cheap. The spirit is willing but the pocket is weak right now.
Sean Kleefeld makes a coupla interesting posts, one just generally interesting to those following the minor ups and major downs of Wowio, and the other more personally interesting to me on Incognegro!
Shit! What happened at IdN? I think they might have gone a little too far with that design. I’ll come back and read that when I can come back and read that! Cheer your design eyes by beholding Mitch Blunt instead.
It’s easy to laugh when logo/brand design goes horribly wrong – so prepare to wet yourselves over at Brand New.
Johanna Draper Carlson reports on How Gemstone Got Their Harvey Nominations! Which is probably why I’m not that interested in awards apart from helping a few friends out myself
.
If you really need to know just how iconic the images of Betty and Veronica are – just try ****ing with them. No good will come from the interpretations over at DrawerGeeks I’m sure. No good has come from this!
The more mature reader might also enjoy reading a little more on Ulysses ‘Seen’.
And finally some honesty!
That’s the news. Now in my wordpress control panel I can see what search terms are used to find my blog and the other day I noticed the following: “work out you fat pig”. I mean, do you people know me better than I do? Oh, no. Wait a minute the reason for it has just sprung to mind! It’s not what I was thinking.

What’s neat about this month’s issue of NUDE is that Molly Crabapple of BACKSTAGE and SCARLETT TAKES MANHATTAN is featured on the cover!

There are so many good things about Nude it’s silly.

I have seen the Fall. It’s actually really good. Sure, it’s gorgeous to look at, but the story’s not as dull as people say. Especially if you enjoy character-based stories. And it’s Lee Pace! Why does he not get more work?
