I got a very nice email the other day from someone who was after this annual so I’m pleased to be able to offer up this scan of Swift Annual No.2 from the fifties. Many items of interest within not least the Frank Bellamy artwork. It’s not complete – being a comic fan I’ve neglected the prose stories – you can always pick up the real thing for cheap on eBay if you want the full unexpurgated experience. British comic Swift was the companion ‘paper’ to Girl, Robin and, of course, the Eagle. If anyone can tell me the proper date on this I’d be grateful – I had thought 1955 but I may be out on that – the general internet seems confused on the matter!

Enjoy! Another classic annual next week!

Here she is! Back with a vengeance. Beryl the Peril – Grade-A menace from the pages of my own childhood comic – The Topper. The entire first annual scanned and available for download from your favourite scanner and archivist of rare British Comics – me! Heh – well not quite, but I try! This is the first Beryl the Peril annual from 1959 – produced bi-annually thereafter. Eighty pages of David Law’s deceptively simple artwork make Beryl’s adventures shine. See her use Ju-Jitsu on an elephant, make a lethal weapon out of a hockey stick (wouldn’t be allowed today), and yes, even plot to blow up the school (definitely a no-no in polite society today) – in fact the more I think about it 1959 must have been a great year!

But either way be careful – the content is revolutionary!

Remember my Noddy scans from waay back in February? Well here’s an update for all you fans out there in toyland. That means you Mrs Fluffy-Cat. I’ve scanned the whole book and it’s available to download here as either a .cbz file or a .pdf – but make haste because I don’t have a lot of space and these babies are 24Mb each. I’ll keep these up for as long as I can but more downloads lined up for the coming months may push the space so much that I have to lose something.
For now:
Download the .cbz file here
or even
Download the .pdf file here
and remember kids a Noddy book is not just for Christmas – it’s for life. Actually I just bought a new copy of this – same edition but in better condition from Oxfam online. So my old copy scanned here can go in the bin – so much for nostalgia eh?

If you like these scans from the Lion Annual 1965 you can buy the real thing in a spiffing box set of the complete Karl the Viking adventures. Don Lawrence is not to be messed with. If you’ve never heard of The Trigan Empire or Storm you’d better look ‘em up now otherwise you’ll feel silly later. I grew up on the adventures of Trigo, Brag, Janno and Peric in Look & Learn, but Karl is new to me.

These scans are from The Hotspur Annual of 1966. The Hotspur was a thoroughly dull and preachy affair, enlivened from time to time by some good if unspectacular artwork. This artist rings a (fire) bell, but I don’t have a name. It’s a style I like, but the subject is typical Hotspur material!
