PANEL PECULIAR

July 16, 2009

You know I bought this comic when it came out or soon after from the second hand bookshop and for some reason the dialogue here must have gone over my 13 year old head (I was a late developer). Like I read the boring bits anyway!? This is too difficult for you guess anything about, except maybe what ‘the work’ actually was maybe? Have fun.

Last week’s test featured the art of Val Mayerik from DC’s Doorway to Nightmare #1 from 1978. Good wasn’t it? And RKB – you’re barred (though you’d have to be familiar with the UK TV adverts for John Smith’s to fully get that)!

OK, how about you try and name this artist who usually manages to turn in some pretty sexy ladies despite not being at all obvious about it! If I were mean I’d ask you to name the comic, but that might be pushing things too far.

Stripper-009

Last week’s trauma was arrested with the help of Lady Cop from First Issue Special #4! Not worthy an ongoing series – now that is a crime!

PANEL PECULIAR

Now here’s an admission you don’t hear everyday, but what could possibly be the title of this short lived series? And no, it’s not Night Nurse!

Stripper-008

Last week’s guest panel lies forever in the shadow of his work on Daredevil, but Gene (the Dean) Colan also worked wonders for the Sub-Mariner and in particular issue #48, well remembered for it’s awkward tie-in with Modok, Dr Doom and the Cosmic Cube.

To be sure drugs have taken their toll of this freak, so no prizes for guessing 1972, but who drew this and for which comic? Any ideas you long haired cretins?

Stripper-007

Of course you knew the alluring brunette from last week’s challenge – it was Rulah from Zoot Comics #8 – a Fox Features comic from 1947. Apparently she’s still hanging on! Be quick and you might still catch her!

PANEL PECULIAR

May 28, 2009

This week I’m merging my (ir)regular challenges and my obsession with odd panels from old comics. You’ll have little difficulty in identifying the main character but the question this week is who drew this rubbish? He’s not usually this bad, but everyone succumbs to hack-itis at some point in their career.

Stripper-003

“Ooohh yeah, rub your missing eye in my face Colonel.” Urgh. I’m not sure if he’s going to kiss her, punch her or just stub his cigar out in her face? Isn’t this all a little sexist? Oh yeah, you’re right. Who cares?

Oh and btw the answers to last week’s mash-up: The Red Panther from Jungle Comics #16 was the picture with words from The Invisibles #1 and the caption from Hitman #4, so now you know!
